Hello, my name is Steven Gilpin, and I am addicted to music. Listening to it. Playing it. Writing it. Recording it. I love it. It is what makes our mundane existence on this planet not so mundane.
Ever since I was a 2-year-old dancing in my hallway to “My Sharona,” I’ve always been into music. My dad raised me on the classic rock of the likes of AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Queen, and most prominently, RUSH. Rush is easily my dad’s favorite band, and starting off as a toddler listening to prog got me to really grow up and appreciate REAL music. Not the kind that people play just to make it on the radio for a one-hit wonder, but the kind of music that comes from the soul. The kind of music that could care less whether it was on the radio or not, just as long as it conveyed the artist’s message.
We had always had instruments around the house, but it wasn’t until I was 13 (and a half) that I rose out of my Pokemon-laden prepubescent stage into wanting to learn the guitar. I began to play in the youth band at my church, and then went on to take a few years of lessons at First Quality Music.
At 16, I picked up my first recording device, a TASCAM DP-01 8-Track Digital Recorder, and began learning how to mix andy master my own music.
At 21 years old, I finally feel ready to step up musically and show the world what I have to offer. I’ve continued to grow as a musician and learn more about guitar as well as bass, drums, and vocals. I am currently in the process of completing my first legitimate EP release, tentatively titled Sledgepuppy. This will feature a method of recording I have grown accustomed to over the last few years: a drum program (EZDrummer) and me (guitars, bass, vocals). I can’t wait for you all to hear it. Until then, you stay classy PLANET EARTH
